Your vehicle has a lot of different parts that need to be maintained in order to keep it running, with some being more overlooked than others. At General Automotive, we’ve been in the vehicle maintenance business for a long time and wanted to take some time today to talk about five overlooked auto maintenance to-do items.

Replace Your Air Filter

Most vehicles have two air filters, one for the engine and one for the cabin. These filters help keep the air in your vehicle clean and help keep your engine running smoothly. When was the last time you had your air filter replaced? If it’s been a while, you definitely want to replace them. Doing so could improve your fuel efficiency and air quality.

Transmission fluid slowly breaks down over time and will need to be replaced. Most transmission fluids need to be changed every 30,000 to 60,000 miles. By replacing your transmission fluid, you can improve your engine’s lubrication and extend the life of your transmission.

Batteries are mostly designed to be maintenance-free, but occasionally you’ll need to clean corrosion off the terminals. Your battery’s connection to the terminals can also become loose.

Your vehicle’s tires are all aligned to roll together in sync. But over time, your wheels can become misaligned. If you’re noticing your car pulling to one side or drifting, it could be because of misalignment, and you will need to have your wheels realigned.

If you have a flat tire, you’ll notice it pretty quickly, but if your tires are just low on air, you may not notice at first, but eventually, you’ll notice your car pulling to one side or the other. Underinflating, as well as overinflating, your tires will wear them down faster than proper inflation.
