Transmissions are one of the most complex machinery in your vehicle. That's why they are prone to damage and constant wear. In this blog, we will give you seven of the most common problems occurring in transmissions so you know when to visit a mechanic that will get you back on the road.
Fluid leaks can be spotted by a puddle or stain of transmission oil on the ground. It's a common and easily noticeable problem. Be sure to visit a repair shop for a repair ASAP because it can cause unwanted friction between all the parts and components that work together.
This problem can be spotted mainly in automatic transmissions - in manuals, shifting gears is done by the driver. If you notice a slow upshift or downshift, consider visiting a mechanic for an inspection and repair if needed.
One of the more obvious signs of transmission system problems is difficulty switching gears. When your vehicle's transmission fails, it may respond differently depending on the type of transmission. Grinding while shifting gears is common in manual vehicles; automatic transmissions may cause the vehicle to wobble between gears, with more strange transitions into the higher gears.
Is your car stalling when you put it in first gear and let go of the clutch? Or maybe it's stalling after starting to drive. In either case, it's a sign of a faulty transmission or a larger problem on the way.
Another obvious sign of a malfunctioning transmission is weird noises. It can resemble a whining, clunking, or grinding sound and can be heard from under the central console.
If you see a solid check engine light on when starting your vehicle, it can mean that there is a malfunction in the transmission - but it's best to check it out at a shop because it can mean other things as well. This especially applies if it's flashing - meaning a serious problem has occurred.
A burnt or oily smell can be noticed in the interior when a transmission or other vital systems malfunction. Make sure to stop by the service facility for an inspection and evaluation of the problem.
If you are experiencing any of the above-mentioned transmission symptoms, or other recurring issues with your car, we invite you to visit the General Automotive Service Center.
